After winning the toss, West Indies put srilanka into bat first. Accordingly, Sri Lanka, who came out to bat, were bowled out for 308 runs. Skipper Dhananjaya Silva scored 120 runs and Sonal Dinhosha scored 43 runs.

It is the highest partnership for the 6th wicket in the history of Test cricket and the record was previously held by England's Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. The duo had set a world record of 399 runs for the 6th wicket against South Africa in 2016, a record that was broken in this match by Roston Chase and Amir Jangu.
