Foreign media reports that Unilever has decided to recall some of its dry shampoo products because they may contain the carcinogenic chemical Benzene.

The New York Times, which published a story about this, states that consumers have been told not to use dry shampoos manufactured before October last year under the brands Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI and TREsemme.

This recall notice has been issued for the United States and Canada. Unilever says it will immediately remove all the suspect products from the market.

Unilever has stated in its statements that this recall is being carried out as a result of its company's internal investigations. The company has also stated that it is working with the suppliers to solve this problem. The US Department of Health and Human Services has stated that long-term exposure to benzene can cause leukemia and blood cell cancer. In addition, tests have confirmed that it can be harmful to the female reproductive organs.
