The Thalathuoya Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a recent video of a cat being tortured that went viral on social media.
An animal welfare association has filed a complaint in this regard, and within a short time of receiving the complaint, the police say that two suspects, aged 18 and 19, were arrested in the Athulgama area. The two arrested are residents of the Athulgama area in the Thalathuoya Police Division.
The suspects reportedly said that the incident took place about six months ago.
The suspects are to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate's Court and charges will be filed against them under Section 411 of the Penal Code, Section 63 (a) of the Police Ordinance and the Act against Cruelty to Animals, the Thalathuoya Police said.
