Police in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, have arrested a man accused of killing 17-year-old social media user Sana Yousaf.
Yousaf, who had hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram, was shot dead at her home on Monday. Yousaf, a popular social media star, lived in the town of Chitral, 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of Islamabad.
Yousaf was shot dead at her home in Islamabad at around 5pm on Friday, Pakistan's Dawn news agency reported, citing her mother, Farzana Yousaf. She was shot twice in the chest and was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
As of Wednesday, her TikTok account had 1.1 million followers. The last video posted on her account was of her celebrating her birthday with her friends.
Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nazir Rizvi told a press conference that police had arrested a suspect from the city of Faisalabad within 20 hours of the murder.
“The arrested individual is a 22-year-old unemployed man. He had repeatedly tried to contact the victim. When she refused to respond, he committed the murder,” Rizvi said.
