Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who has been avoiding appearing in court in connection with the Central Bank bond scam case, has changed his name, says Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala.
He has now changed his name to ‘Harjan Alexander’, the Minister said, adding that this is confirmed by extensive information in the possession of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Although Arjuna Mahendran has obtained citizenship of Singapore, the Minister said that according to the current legal conditions in that country, there is no possibility of extraditing a Singaporean citizen to another country. Therefore, another method must be found to bring Arjuna Mahendran to Sri Lanka, the Minister said. He said this while participating in a television discussion
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama has ordered the case filed in connection with the Central Bank bond scam that caused a loss of over 10 billion rupees to the government to be recalled on October 30th.
