The Jaffna Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau and the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit officers have arrested the deceased woman's boyfriend, who has been identified as the main suspect in the murder of a woman in a car in the Teldeniya area on the 17th, in Jaffna this morning.
It is reported that this suspect was accompanied by his wife and a small child. Yesterday (23), the police, having received intelligence information that the group of suspects were traveling from Wellawatte to Chavakachcheriya in Jaffna by bus, took steps to arrest the group as soon as they arrived in Jaffna.
It is reported that the main suspect was wearing a face mask at the time of the arrest and his wife was disguised as a Muslim woman.
During initial questioning of the suspect, he stated that he had come to Kurunegala from Vavuniya to look after the other two children and was about to surrender to the police.
The suspects have been in Negombo and Chilaw for the past few days and are reported to have attempted to leave the country by sea. The suspects are to be handed over to the Nuwara Eliya Police for further investigations.
The woman who was murdered was a 35-year-old woman who was working as a physiotherapist at the Ampara Hospital. She is a resident of the Weligama area.
