The person who stole the Ranamayura Award from vetern film director Dr. Lester James Peiris for directing the movie Gamperaliya has been arrested once again in Kandy .
This Rana Mayura Award presented to Dr. Lester James Pires at the New Delhi Film Festival is considered to be a very important award for a Sri Lankan filmmaker. The award disappeared after his death. Later investigations confirmed that someone who had come to the funeral had stolen the award.
During the questioning of a person arrested by the police for Wallet theft during the first Kumbal Perahara held yesterday (21), the police have been able to identify him as the person who stole the Ranamayura award.
A 71-year-old registered criminal has been arrested. He is a resident of Gampola area. Further investigations will be conducted under the leadership of Chief Inspector Naleen Indika, Station Commander of the Kandy Police Crime Division.
