The current government made various promises to win the votes of the people in the plantation areas, but even after two years of coming to power, the only thing that has been fulfilled from those promises is increasing the salaries of the plantation workers, said Tamil Progressive Alliance Deputy Leader MP Palani Digambaram.
He said this while addressing a meeting of senior leaders of the National Workers' Union and the National Workers' Front held in Hatton.
Speaking further on this, Palani Digambaram said that the opposition in this country, including himself, was silent until two years after the current government came to power.
The MP said that since the promises made to gain power were not fulfilled, Tamil political parties and Muslim political parties have come together and formed an alliance to obtain those promises, and that the alliance has also invited him to meet the President and discuss.
The Tamil Progressive Alliance has met the President on several occasions and requested the President to provide the lands promised to the people of the plantations, and at that time the President asked his alliance where the lands were to be provided to the plantation workers, said MP Palani Digambaram. He pointed out that the people of the plantations as well as other provinces are leaving the government in the face of the government not fulfilling its promises.
