The hearing of the petition filed against the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution is scheduled to be held before the Supreme Court for the second day today (02).

The hearing of this petition began yesterday before a five-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena.

While lawyers presented arguments to the court on behalf of several parties who filed the petitions yesterday (01), Additional Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne presented arguments on behalf of the Attorney General.

The total number of petitions filed before the Supreme Court challenging the 22nd Amendment Bill is 67. Pivithuru Hela Urumaya's leading lawyer, Udaya Prabath Gammanpila, told the media yesterday that this could be the largest number of petitions filed against a constitutional amendment in recent times.
