The case involving former State Intelligence Service chief Suresh Salle, who is under detention orders in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks, was taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Senior State Counsel Oswald Perera, appearing for the Criminal Investigation Department, said that investigators have been unable to record statements of Suresh Sale due to Suresh Sale being in the National Hospital for more than three months. Therefore, he requested that a report be called on Suresh Sale's health condition.
Accordingly, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena yesterday issued an order to the Director of the National Hospital to submit a report on Suresh Sale's health condition to the court. The statement issued by the Magistrate states that the report should clarify whether Suresh Sale needs further inpatient treatment or whether he can be discharged from the hospital.
President's Counsel Shavindra Fernando, appearing for Sale, did not object to the calling of a hospital report, but pointed out that doctors have already given advice on his client's health condition.
He also stressed that although his client is in a fit state of health to give a statement, the CID has not yet attempted to obtain a statement from him.
The Magistrate, observing that the medical reports of the previously appointed medical board have not yet been received, ordered the Director of the National Hospital to submit a new report. The case is scheduled to be taken up again on September 15.
