Sri Lankan Rumesh Tharanga has managed to secure third place in the latest javelin world rankings released by the World Athletics Federation yesterday (10).

According to the latest classification, Rumesh Tharanga holds a ranking of 1,324 points.

The first place in this list is occupied by German athlete Julian Weber with 1,360 points, while the second place is occupied by Anderson Peters of Grenada.

It is noteworthy that there is a very small gap of 2 points between Anderson Peters (1,326 points) and Rumesh Tharanga, who is in second place.

Rumesh Tharanga has been able to surpass two Olympic gold medalists, who are giants of the world athletics field.

Accordingly, world-renowned Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra is ranked 5th in these rankings, while Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is ranked 10th.

Rumesh Tharanga achieved this remarkable feat by throwing the javelin at a distance of 92.62 meters in the recently held 'Diamond League' athletics tournament in Rome, Italy. In that event, he managed to set a new Sri Lankan record as well as a new tournament record.
