Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered the release of Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, on bail a short while ago.
The Magistrate issued this order after considering a recommendation by a medical board at the National Hospital of Colombo, which advised that Shiranthi Rajapaksa requires bypass surgery a factor deemed to be of a special nature. It was revealed that there is an 80% blockage in one of Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s main coronary arteries.
Accordingly, the Magistrate granted bail, requiring a cash bail of 10 million rupees (100 lakh rupees) along with two personal sureties of 10 million rupees each. Additionally, a travel ban has been imposed on her.
