Shiran Basik, a powerful drug trafficker who was arrested in Dubai and brought to this country, and two other individuals who were brought with him, have been handed over to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau in Colombo for further investigation.
The suspects were brought to the Katunayake Airport from Abu Dhabi last night (14) and were handed over to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau in Colombo.
Shiran Basik (48) is a resident of Kalubowila, Dehiwala. A red warrant had been issued by the Interpol for his arrest after he fled to the United Arab Emirates in 2018.
He was arrested in Dubai on the 26th of last month for allegedly having photos and videos of drones and missiles used by Iran to attack the United Arab Emirates during the Iran-US war on his mobile phone. International media reports that Shiran Basik, who was arrested, had also been wanted by the US for questioning.
This man, who was hiding in Dubai disguised as a wealthy man, has been extradited to Sri Lanka after it was confirmed that he is a red warrant holder.
Police say that he has been charged with drug trafficking, possession of firearms, possession of serious and sharp weapons, and being a member of an illegal assembly.
Investigations are also scheduled to be conducted in the future regarding illegal assets suspected to have been acquired through drug trafficking and other organized criminal activities by Shiran Basic.
