The Consumer Affairs Authority is working to remove locally manufactured sanitary napkins that do not have the SLS certification from the market.
Accordingly, the manufacture, packaging, distribution, transportation, storage and sale of locally manufactured sanitary napkins without the SLS certification logo will be prohibited from 8th October 2026, the authority said in a statement.
This order has been issued under Section 12(2) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003, and the statement states that only products bearing the SLS certification logo issued by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution can be released to the market.
The statement further states that this order applies to both types of products, namely regular sanitary napkins and thin sanitary napkins that can be used once.
Similarly, it is mandatory for imported sanitary napkins to obtain approval under the Sri Lanka Standards Institution's Import Standardization and Quality Control Inspection System. The Consumer Affairs Authority informs that the distribution, storage or sale and import of imported sanitary napkins that have not been approved will be prohibited.
Accordingly, the Authority has announced that the production, packaging, distribution, transportation, storage and sale of locally manufactured sanitary napkins that do not bear the SLS Product Certification Mark will be prohibited from October 8, 2026.
