The Railway Department has issued a special circular today (26) regarding the use of social media during working hours and the prevention of sensitive information on railway operations from being shared.
The Sri Lanka Railways Department says that this circular has been issued as it has been identified that a trend of certain sensitive information related to the department being shared on social media has been observed recently and that the use of social media by railway employees has been the reason for this.
Railway sources say that it has been identified that the sharing of sensitive information on social media in this way is causing a loss of public trust and in addition, it is also a serious threat to institutional discipline.
According to this new circular, only the Railway General Manager, the Railway Official Media Spokesperson and the Information Officer can provide official information of the Railway Department to an external party or the media.
According to this circular, which has been issued under the signature of the General Manager of Railways, strict legal action will be taken against employees who violate the rules and regulations imposed by it.
