President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that as part of the program to modernize the Sri Lanka Police Service, a new uniform will be introduced for the police.

The President said that discussions have already been held with the Inspector General of Police regarding changing the existing police uniform to better suit the needs of a modern police service, and the government plans to introduce a new uniform for the police by mid-2027.

Accordingly, the President said that the Inspector General has been instructed to engage a professional fashion design company to design a suitable new uniform.

“I told the Inspector General to ask a good fashion design company to design a good uniform,” the President said.

The proposed new uniform is expected to enable a modern police officer to easily wear the necessary tools, including body cameras, batons, flashlights, handcuffs and other essential equipment.
