President Anura Kumara Dissanayake arrived in Parliament today to comment on the resolution on the eradication of narcotics and the suppression of organized crime that was debated today.
Stating that corruption, organized crime gangs, drug dealers, crime and politics must all be suppressed and that there are laws and state institutions for this, the President said that unfortunately, the opposition has become the main accused in all of this.
The President also stated that the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Deputy Inspector General of Police Shani Abeysekara, plays a major role in suppressing crime and that today he has become an enemy of the opposition.
Meanwhile, the President also said that the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Ranga Dissanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Minister Ananda Wijepala, Dileepa Peiris on behalf of the Attorney General's Department and the judiciary have also become enemies of the opposition today.
"Today, fairness, justice, democracy and good governance do not withstand the opposition. If crimes have been committed from within the state with state sponsorship, should the criminals not be exposed? Is it betrayal of the country? Is it treason? No, that is the intention of building a civilized state. Our state should be transformed into a civilized state."
Our country was a civilized state. We have respect, appreciation and sincerity for our armies and intelligence agencies. But if our military and intelligence services are oppressed anywhere when they are performing a role for the security of the state, for the security of the people, we stand by them… If the military and intelligence services have been active for the security of the people, both domestically and internationally, for the security of the country, we are obliged to protect and respect them everywhere. We do that work. But if small groups in the military or intelligence services have done something for the state's interest, for the power of a certain family, for the power of a political camp, our government will not hesitate to give appropriate punishment for it. The President said.
