Sunil Kumara Gamage, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, has taken steps to temporarily suspend the registration of the 'Sri Lanka Motorsport Association' the national governing body for motorsport in Sri Lanka.
The Minister has issued an extraordinary gazette notification regarding this decision.
With this suspension, the responsibility for overseeing the process of amending the Association's existing constitution, as well as supervising the election process for the appointment of new office-bearers, has been vested in the Secretary to the Ministry. Consequently, the Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has been appointed as the 'Competent Authority' to manage the Association's ongoing administrative affairs and other related functions.
According to the relevant extraordinary gazette notification, the appointment of the Ministry Secretary as the Competent Authority has been in effect since October 15th.
