A motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a road accident that occurred in the Haldduwana area on the B 419 main road in Koswatta Police Division this morning has died while being admitted to the Dankotuwa Hospital.
The accident occurred when a motor vehicle traveling from Madampe towards Thoppuwa collided with a motor vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
It is reported that National People's Party MP Mohamed Faisal was traveling in the motor vehicle that caused the accident and that the vehicle was driven by his brother. The MP was on his way to attend today's parliamentary session. Investigations have revealed that the accident occurred due to the driver falling asleep.
The body has been deposited at the Dankotuwa Hospital morgue and the MP's brother who was driving the vehicle has been arrested by the police. Koswatta Police are conducting further investigations. The deceased was a 65-year-old resident of Pathahawatta, Wennappuwa area.
