The Department of Irrigation has issued a notice stating that a minor flood situation may arise in the Kalu Ganga basin due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
The notice indicates that this situation could develop within the next 24 hours. The Department has stated that minor flooding may occur in low-lying areas situated on the floodplains of the Kalu Ganga (Kalu River) within the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions: Pelmadulla, Nivithigala, Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Ayagama, and Elapatha in the Ratnapura District; and Ingiriya, Horana, Dodangoda, Millaniya, Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palindanuwara in the Kalutara District.
Accordingly, the Irrigation Department has advised residents living in these areas, as well as motorists using roads passing through them, to remain vigilant.
