District Secretary Indika Udawatte instructed all Divisional Secretaries of the Kandy District to pay the compensation of all residents of the Kandy District who were affected by the Ditwa disaster and were eligible to receive compensation before the end of this month.
Most Divisional Secretariats have paid the relevant money to the beneficiaries, but as there is a severe delay in some offices, he informed that the relevant money should be given to the beneficiaries promptly.
A special discussion regarding the progress of the payment of disaster compensation funds was held at the Kandy District Secretariat yesterday (17) with the participation of Divisional Secretaries, Assistant Divisional Secretaries and Administrative Grama Niladharis, where he said this.
He instructed the relevant officials to update the disaster compensation funds as well as the disaster damage data properly on a daily basis. District Secretary Indika Udawatte instructed that all fields including disaster deaths, missing persons, complete and partial damage to houses, areas requiring further investigation by the National Building Research Institute, and payment of disaster compensation should be recorded and updated separately, and that all such data processing should be completed within this week and forwarded to the District Secretariat.
He said that the Kandy District is in a leading position in terms of constructing new houses and resettling those who have lost their homes, and that the construction of several houses in the Niyangoda Housing Project, which was inaugurated by the President, has already made great progress.
Since the lives of about 5,000 families in the Kandy District depend on the efficiency of these officers, he said that these payments and permanent resettlement should be expedited and the people should be given the opportunity to celebrate the Sinhala Hindu New Year.
District Secretary Indika Udawatte instructed the relevant officers to report relevant information regarding the officers who neglect their duties to the District Secretariat and to give priority to the work of paying disaster compensation in addition to the development projects of the office.
Kandy Additional District Secretary Lalith Atampawala, Chief Accountant S. Shivachandrin, officers of the District Secretariat, Divisional Secretaries, Assistant Divisional Secretaries and Administrative Grama Officers of the Kandy District participated in this event.
