The celebration organized by the Indian High Commission in Kandy to coincide with the 80th Independence Day celebrations of India was held at the office premises this morning (15). It was presided over by the Indian High Commissioner Saranya V.S.
The Indian flag was hoisted by the Assistant High Commissioner and the celebration began with the playing of the Indian National Anthem. The Assistant High Commission also presented certificates to the winners of the knowledge competitions conducted among school children.

The celebration, which also included Indian dances, was attended by the Anunayake of the Malwatta Chapter, Venerable Niyangoda Wijithasiri Thero, the Maha Sangha, the Governor of the Central Province, Specialist Dr. Suranga Fernando, the Mayor of Kandy, Chandrasiri Wijenayake, the Chief Secretary of the Central Province, Ajith Premasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Terence Madhujith, the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, and a group of others.
