The government initially tried to revive SriLankan Airlines by retaining full state ownership, but the government has now decided that a different approach is needed, and accordingly, it has decided to move towards a public-private partnership model for SriLankan Airlines, says Aviation Minister Anura Kumaratilleke.
The Aviation Minister also stated that the government needs to urgently appoint a new Chairman and CEO for SriLankan Airlines.
The Minister stated that interviews for the appointment of the new CEO are already underway and several teams have already been evaluated for that purpose.
He stated that several more applicants are to be called for interviews before a shortlist is prepared for the final round of selection, and that the new CEO will be appointed very shortly.
He noted that SriLankan Airlines is currently operating without both a Chairman and a CEO.
