After Sri Lanka national cricket team failed to advance beyond the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, former Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga posted a message on his Facebook account for disappointed fans. The following is an excerpt from that post:

Excerpt begins:

“Since the day our country won its first World Cup in 1996, many people who loved the sport may have drifted away when we were knocked out in the early rounds and even after reaching finals and losing four World Cup finals.

But those who believed that our country could win another World Cup endured the difficult times and continued supporting both the game and the players — even with frustration and criticism — for 18 years until 2014. Because of that patience, we were able to win in 2014.

So there is no reason why we cannot win another World Cup. Now 12 years have passed, but there are still many people who understand the game and stay with it.

Therefore, like me, they too will stay with the sport until we win the next World Cup. Giving up is not the solution in sport.”
