The government yesterday asked vehicle importers to refrain from misleading the public by providing various unnecessary information regarding vehicle imports, as the import of vehicles is permitted under certain restrictions.
Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly cabinet decision briefing that the Finance Ministry will soon announce the categories of vehicles that will be allowed to be imported.
He said that the decision on vehicle imports was taken after considering the country's economic situation, the government's economic goals and the country's foreign reserves, after close monitoring by the Finance Ministry.
