The newspapers have issued a statement saying that the printing operations of the two daily newspapers, Mawbima and Ceylon Today, which have been operating in the country for more than 14 years, will end today.
The front pages of the Mawbima and Ceylon Today newspapers, which were released to the market today (04), had stated that from now on they will be operating exclusively in the digital space.
The statement had thanked the readers for making the Mawbima daily newspaper a unique brand in Sri Lankan media, which has provided news responsibly, independently and with clarity for more than four years.
However, it further states that the digital media had to be entered in a context where the way readers consume news is undergoing rapid change.
Although the daily newspaper is being closed, the Sunday Mawbima newspaper will continue to be published as a printed newspaper, the news report states.
The ownership of both Mawbima and Ceylon Today newspapers was owned by a company owned by former Minister Tiran Alles.
