Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, said that interest in religious and spiritual life is rapidly decreasing in today's human society. While participating in a church service, His Holiness pointed out that even in the world's supposedly developed countries, churches are being closed.
Stating that people are spending more time on various hobbies and entertainment activities instead of visiting churches on weekends, His Holiness pointed out that the huge basilicas and churches in Europe have become empty spaces today.
The Cardinal emphasized that although the churches are empty of people, the stadiums and entertainment centers are full of people.
The Cardinal said that due to the loss of devotion and trust in God, man is pursuing temporary satisfaction and the accumulation of material wealth, and a society is emerging that forgets the noble qualities of humanity and thinks only about physical needs.
