Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of three Chinese nationals in Colombo Port City, and police sources say that the body found in the Eheliyagoda area yesterday is that of the kidnapped person.
On the night of the 22nd, three Chinese nationals arrived in Colombo Port City in a rented cab and were fishing when a group of masked Chinese nationals attacked them and abducted them in two vans.
Two of them were later abandoned near the Beach Plaza car park in Colombo Port City. The two complained to the Port Police and investigations have been initiated into the incident.
During questioning of two Chinese nationals who were waiting near the exit gate of the Port City, they had said that they worked at the Port City, but further investigation revealed that this was not true.
Subsequently, with the cooperation of the Airport Unit of the State Intelligence Service, the two suspects were arrested while they were preparing to leave the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. Later, the two were handed over to the Port Police. During questioning, the police confirmed that they were directly involved in this crime.
Based on the information received from them, during the investigation, the police found a dead body believed to be that of a Chinese national in a room of an abandoned house near the Eheliyagoda intersection. It has also been revealed that it is the body of the person who was abducted from the Colombo Port City.
In connection with the incident, an abandoned car near the Eheliyagoda Nugadanda Kovil has also been found, and the Colombo Port Police and the Eheliyagoda Police are conducting further investigations.
