The statement made by National People's Power MP Asitha Niroshana that the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka Rajeeva Wijesinghe is preparing to contest as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya's Western Province Chief Ministerial candidate is his personal opinion, says National People's Power General Secretary and MP Nihal Abeysinghe.
He states that it is by no means the official position of the National People's Power and that no public discussion has been held and a decision has been taken on this matter within the party.
He points out that such statements are made by MPs in Parliament on a personal level and the responsibility for such statements lies with the relevant MP.
Responding to a question raised by journalists regarding the extension of the retirement age of judges, he said that a cabinet paper on the matter has already been submitted and that further discussions will be held in the future and necessary steps will be taken. He also said that the party has also paid attention to the opposition of the Sri Lanka Bar Association in this regard.
