A tense situation has emerged regarding the death of Ishara Harsha Kumara from Kiriwaththuduwa, who had been arrested and detained at the Homagama Police Station. Relatives of the 29-year-old claim that his death resulted from an assault by police officers while he was in police custody.
Furthermore, they allege that when the suspect was brought back after being taken away for questioning, he was unable to even walk, and had to be carried by several police officers.
The relatives further allege that when the suspect was returned to the police cell, there were visible injuries on his body and he was bleeding. They claim that, following their insistence, he was eventually taken to the Homagama Base Hospital, but he was already dead by the time he arrived. The Police Media Division states that a suspect was brought to the Homagama Police Station following a drug raid; the suspect subsequently experienced a sudden medical emergency and passed away after being hospitalized.
