Four people were injured when a section of the pavement near the old prison in Kandy city suddenly collapsed; they have been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for treatment.
Three men and one woman sustained injuries in the incident. The collapse occurred while they were walking along the pavement in front of a nearby shop.
Local residents suggest that the soil layer beneath the pavement may have weakened due to soil erosion caused by the flow of water in a canal located behind the commercial shops.
