A plan to create a crisis between medical groups and destroy the health system.

The Government Medical Officers' Association is reporting an attempt to create conflicts between medical groups and lead the medical service and the free health system into a crisis.

The association states that a political campaign has now been created to create a division between specialist doctors and other medical groups. The association, which points out that the retention of doctors, including specialists, in the country was a problem in the face of the economic, social and political instability in the country, and that a committee consisting of stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and medical professional associations was appointed to find solutions to that problem, has also agreed to establish a new service category called the "Sri Lanka Medical Service" and a salary structure to retain all categories in the country.

Accordingly, the association stated that it was assured that a separate service category would be established in the third reading of the 2026 budget to retain all doctors, including specialists.

However, the Government Medical Officers' Association has pointed out that a proposal has been made to establish a separate service category only for specialists, and that this risks creating a division between medical categories.

Accordingly, the Government Medical Officers Association states that its association does not agree with the proposal considering the impact that establishing a separate service constitution for only one category may have on the free health service and patient care services.

The Government Medical Officers Association states that its oral and written views have been submitted to the relevant committee in this regard and that although the association has requested the relevant authorities to provide a copy of the committee report on several occasions, it has not been provided so far.

Due to this, an emergency meeting of the provincial and district coordinators of the association was held on the 28th to take appropriate decisions on future actions and accordingly, an emergency meeting of the sub-committee of the Government Medical Officers Association of Specialist Doctors is scheduled to be held tomorrow (31).
