Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department demanding that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake who is working to create hatred and discord between nations, be arrested immediately after his term of office ends.

The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya has requested in its complaint filed this morning that the current President be arrested and charged under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) after his term of office ends. The complaint, filed by the party's Youth Affairs Secretary Kumara Rajaratne, is shown below.

Dear Director,

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's actions to create hatred and discord among the races

In his speech at a public meeting held at the Kokuvil Technical College playground in Jaffna on 16.01.2026, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made the following statement:

"There are conflicts centered around a sacred place. People come to Jaffna after passing the Sri Maha Bodhi Thero to perform Poya. There is no precept there, our Venerable, there is hatred. Or they come to one place in Jaffna after passing a large number of temples and sacred places to perform precepts. Not for the sake of precepts, but for the sake of hatred."

This statement of the President was widely publicized in the local media and social media.

Through this statement, the President has deliberately created a very wrong image among the Tamil people of this country regarding the Buddhist people who come to worship at historical Buddhist shrines in the North, and thereby instilled serious hatred among the people of the North against the Buddhist people who come to the North. Therefore, there is a risk that Buddhists who come to worship in the North will be subjected to harassment.

Also, according to this statement, there may be a feeling of hatred among the Sinhalese people in the South towards the Tamil people who come to worship at Kataragama after passing through numerous Hindu shrines from the North. Problems may also arise due to this statement of the President regarding the Catholic people of this country who go to worship at Madu Church in the North after passing through numerous Catholic shrines in the South of this country.

Accordingly, this statement by the President has led to a tense situation among all religious groups in the country, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Catholic.

This clearly shows that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has violated the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act No. 56 of 2007.

However, we know that since Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake is currently the President of the country, he is entitled to presidential immunity.

Therefore, as soon as his term of office ends, we kindly request you to arrest Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake and file a case under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Act.
