78 locomotives have been taken out of service.

The Auditor General's Department states that 78 locomotives that need to be repaired have been left unattended at the running shed and the Ratmalana main railway factory. It is reported that some of the engines have been taken out of service since 2017.

M-class diesel locomotives as well as S-class power set engines have also been taken out of service in this manner and the Railway Department is facing a serious crisis due to the lack of sufficient engines.
