50% surcharge on vehicle imports extended until December .

The 50% surcharge imposed on vehicle import duties has been extended until December 31. This surcharge was scheduled to end tomorrow and has been extended for the period from tomorrow to December 31.

The relevant extension has been made in accordance with the powers vested in the President under Section 10A of the Customs Ordinance, as amended by Act No. 83 of 1988 (Chapter 235).

However, this surcharge will not apply to motor vehicle imports for which letters of credit were opened on or before May 15th.
