The Child Protection Authority has received 108,581 complaints regarding child abuse during the 10-year period from 2015 to 2025, says Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savitri Paul Raj.
The Minister said this in Parliament today (23) while responding to a question asked by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa under Standing Orders 27/2.
The Minister said that as of April 30th of this year, 4421 cases of child abuse were pending in the High Court and there were charge sheets against the suspects.
Saroja Savithra Paulraj also stated that as a further step to ensure the protection of child victims, steps will be taken to record video evidence in an environment free from any influence and submit it to the court without presenting the children to the court.
Meanwhile, the National Child Protection Authority said that more than 5000 complaints related to children, including child abuse, have been received in the first 06 months of this year.
