President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that an exhibition of the Tooth Relic will be held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa after 16 years.
The President also said that he had made requests to the Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatta and Asgiri Chapters of the Siam Maha Nikaya in this regard.
The President, who arrived in Kandy, venerated the Tooth Relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa this morning (23) and sought blessings. Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela welcomed the President with a bouquet of flowers.
Afterwards, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited the Malwatta Maha Viharaya and met the Mahanayake of the Malwatta Chapter, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero, and engaged in a discussion.
Afterwards, he visited the Asgiri Maha Viharaya and held discussions with the Maha Sangha including the Mahanayake of the Asgiri Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thero, the Anunayake of the Maha Viharaya, the Registrar and the Maha Sangha.
The President said that it was agreed to hold the exhibition of the Tooth Relic after the Sinhala-Hindu New Year, and that the Diyawadana Nilame, the Governor and the Kandy District Secretary, and other state officials had agreed to work on it in the future.
He said that a very good budget has been presented and that the salaries of public servants have increased significantly, and that no one should be worried about the budget.
He said that there have been conflicts between underworld groups, but there is no threat to national security, and that it has not posed a threat to the safety of the general public. The President also stated that these underworld group relationships, which have been developing for a long time, have spread to various fields and various institutions.
He said that there is a suspicion that this is a conflict between underworld gangs or that another gang is behind this and that investigations have been initiated in this regard.
Mr. Dissanayake said that we are working to completely suppress the underworld, which has become a destructive network, and that since the underworld currently has no political protection, it will be able to be completely suppressed.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake further said that there is no legal obstacle to the Election Commission from holding the local government elections and that the Commission will announce a suitable date soon.
The discussion held at the Asgiri Maha Viharaya was attended by Venerable Vedaruwe Upali Thero and Venerable Anamaduwe Dhammadassi Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Viharaya, Venerable Uralewatte Dhammarakkheetha Thero, the Registrar of the Asgiri Chapter, Venerable Medagama Dhammananda Thero, and other members of the Maha Sangha.
Minister of Plantations and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyarathna, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Deputy Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni and others attended the event.
